Alaska 2015 VBS Mission – June 30

Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, BUT whoever drinks of the water I will give him will NEVER be thirsty again!” John 4:13-14

WOW!!! What a day we had Tuesday for our last day of VBS!

The kids came in all pumped up and ready for VBS FUN RUN Day 4! We had several new kids show up and bring some friends. It was so good to see lots of new faces this year.

As the kids were coloring their living water sheets, we had the VBS music playing. They were all singing along and knew all the songs we chose for this year. The kids have really enjoyed the songs this year, but they still ask us to do POWER from last year! They can really get into it…AND they do!

Haley and Jay decided to give prizes to the kids that colored the best picture each day. They gave 2 prizes to the boys and 2 prizes to the girls. The kids got very excited about this…and the scribbling turned into some pretty good coloring! The next day the kids showed up and started asking if we were having a coloring contest that day! We have some very good “colorers” in the group. Heck, I am 59 years old and I still cannot stay within the lines!

Our special guests showed up and helped us with the Bible story again today! The puppets have been a hit with the kids. Haley and Jay have done a SUPER job working with them. On Monday they had to use 4 puppets during the skit. It was so funny watching them try to keep up with who was talking and which puppet was supposed to be on the stage. That is what makes these trips so much fun, seeing how things just “work out”. The kids love these guys and I am so glad to have them on this team, Haley and Jay! And yes the puppets too!

One of the new things we did this year was to break the Bible story time into 2 parts; a summary of the story for all the kids, then break them out into small groups, younger kids and older kids. Ms. Lynett had the younger kids (she says she is still a “young” kids at heart) and Ms. Melynda had the older kids (enough said about that :)). These guys did an awesome job. We had a plan for each group, what to discuss and questions to ask, but Ms. Lynett and Ms. Melynda did a great job letting the Holy Spirit guide them to what each group really needed to hear.

The kids have been incredible this year. I have been coming for 4 years now and have seen many of the kids “grow up” so much in that time. The great thing has been to see how the Father is working here in these kids lives, and in this community. There is hope coming alive in McGrath, and the Father is starting a big work here.

Today is a BIG day! It is the 2nd Annual VBS FUN DAY for all the VBS kids and their families! All the fun starts at 3pm. A big treat this year is we get to help Ms Kellie plant the school garden. This fall all the kids will get to harvest what they planted! I am looking forward to this. The rest of the day will be games, face painting, a hot dog cookout, and the closing program, which is always a big hit. The kids will sing their songs and help tell what they have learned this week. I really love this time! Each kid will get their bags with all their crafts and coloring sheets. This year we have packed the bags with all kinds of goodies, plus a CD of all the VBS songs! Each kid will also receive a nice certificate and a gold medal for “Fighting the good fight…Finishing the race…and keeping the faith!” The program will close with a word from the group about the week. This will be an opportunity to share, using what the kids have learned this week about Jesus, a short Gospel message to parents that do not attend and church events.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for highlights of the day.
