History

Keith Waldrop, Senior Pastor of Christ Community Church (Montgomery, Alabama) has had a vision for ministry to the students on the campus of Troy University (Troy, Alabama) for several years. Keith was a student at Troy when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. The desire of his heart was to provide a ministry to reach students with the Gospel. In 2009, several Troy University students came to worship at Christ Community Church. While at the church the students shared a vision they had to provide a Sunday morning worship service at Troy. Several meetings were held with this group of students to plan the first service. On Sunday, September 27, 2009, Momentum Ministries was launched in the Trojan Center on the campus of Troy University. Visit the Resources tab on our website and see a documentary of the Momentum ministry.

From 2009 until 2012, Momentum Ministries had a strong presence for Jesus Christ on the campus of Troy University. Each Sunday that school was in session at Troy, our student lead team held a contemporary worship service that included a live worship band and a mix of video teaching by Pastor Keith Waldrop, and live teaching by Pastor Keith, Mike Mason, and other special speaker. On Thursdays, our leadership team setup a table on the Troy campus quad and interacted with students throughout the day. Momentum sponsored a campus-wide night of worship featuring Passion Church worship leader Bret Yonker that packed out the Trojan Student Center.

One of the ministry’s goals was to have a mission outreach starting locally and growing out to the world. Locally the ministry was involved in tutoring at local elementary schools. Several members of our ministry team would go to local schools and provide help to students in varying subjects. The ministry was involved in service around the Troy area. In the fall of 2011, Mike Mason, the campus pastor and Director, led a mission team of 15 to Trinidad, West Indies to hold a week long youth retreat at a local church. Trinidad has a strong Hindu and Muslim presence, and is a very dark place spiritually. During the week we saw over 100 young people share in games, worship and hear the Gospel message. Many youth made first time commitments to Christ.

In the summer of 2012, the ministry began to put a greater emphasis on its mission focus. With its senior leadership graduating, a lack of new students to take leadership responsibility and several local churches starting up college ministries, Momentum closed its campus ministry at Troy. Mike Mason had been doing mission work in Trinidad for several years and felt a strong call to continue to be a presence there. As result of contacts made at Momentum worship services, Mike found a new mission opportunity in the bush village of McGrath, Alaska. In 2012 Mike was part of the mission team to McGrath and saw a huge opportunity for ministry to children and youth. Since 2012, Mike has led teams to McGrath each summer for Vacation Bible School and construction. In 2015 Mike was asked to stay in the village all summer to serve as interim pastor while the church pastor was out of the village. As a result of this summer ministry the church has asked Mike to stay as interim pastor for six months.

Vision

Reaching The World And Transforming Lives For Christ.

What We Believe

God in Three Persons

There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence and obedience. The Eternal God reveals Himself to us Father, Son and Holy Spirit with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature, essence or being.

God the Father

God the Father is Spirit and is without origins. All things come from Him, and in Him all people “live and move and have their being” (Acts 17:28). “No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” (1 John 2:23 NIV)

God the Son

Through Jesus Christ, God perfectly and completely reveals Himself to those who would know Him. “…God has spoken to us by His son… through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being… ” (Hebrews 1:2-3) For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, …” (Colossians 2:99 NIV)

God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is a person. He thinks, sees, hears, speaks, and performs any act of which personality is capable. We can cause the Holy Spirit to grieve when we do not trust Him to lead us. (Ephesians 4:30). When we are born again, the Spirit comes and makes us God’s possession (Romans 8:9). Every believer is told by Scripture to be filled with the Holy Spirit to be equipped for service (Ephesians 5:18). The Holy Spirit should flow out of the believer like rivers of living water (John 7:38). The same Holy Spirit that lived in Jesus Christ and raised Him from the dead, lives in us- we are His dwelling place. By that same Spirit we are able to continue the ministry Jesus had here on earth in bodily form.

Scriptures Inspired

The scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are inspired of God and are the Revelation of God to man. The infallible, authoritative Rule of Faith and Conduct. Preaching the Word will be central to the success of this Faith Family (II Timothy 3:15-17).

Creation

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” (Genesis 1:1-2 NIV)

Virgin Birth

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived within her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:20-21 NIV)

Salvation of Man

Man’s only hope of redemption is through the shedding of blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Salvation is the Gift of God received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10)

Church

The church is a group of spirit-filled believers brought together by the Spirit of God to carry out the Great Commission. We observe two ordinances; Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Baptism

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward happening that has occurred in the life of the Believer. It is an identification with Christ by picturing His death, burial and resurrection.

Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper is a means of grace where believers take time for personal examination and reflection as we observe the Lord’s death until He comes. The bread and cup are symbols of His body and blood which were broken and spilled out for our salvation and is done in “remembrance” of Him until He comes again.

Worship

It is our desire that true worship will be manifested in everything we do. Worship is our response to God for who He is and what He has done expressed by the way we live. It’s about our lives. Psalm 103:1 says, “My whole being praise the Lord. All my being praise His holy name.” Focusing our mind’s attention on the Lord pushes us to know Him and glorify Him.

Spiritual Gifts

The exercise of spiritual gifts is intended to be a part of the normal life of the Christian community. Spiritual gifts are more than natural talents they are supernatural. It is wrong to ignore or deny the gifts, and equally wrong to overemphasize one or two of them to the point of abuse. The scripture makes it plain that we are to strongly desire the possession of spiritual gifts (I Corinthians 12:31, I Corinthians 14:1). The gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to individual believers to accomplish the work of the Holy Spirit through the believer toward the world and within the Church. Gifts equip the believer to accomplish what natural talent cannot do, and are the principal means whereby the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ continues on earth today.
